Expert committee appointed to look into International Covid treatment

Wiraj Abeysinghe, Media Secretary to Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi stated today (20) that the Minister has appointed a Medical expert Committee to look into the international production of drugs and treatment for the control of the Covid-19 virus and has ordered an expeditious report on the same. Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama, Dr. Hasitha Tissera and Dr. Prasanna Gunasena have been included in the committee. Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Minister of Health emphasized that the Ministry of Health will soon order medicines, new therapies and vaccines to be manufactured to control Covid as per the recommendations given by this committee. "It has been about a year and six months since the Covid-19 virus entered the world. This virus is not like the early days when it invaded the world. Research into new drugs, new treatments, and new vaccines is nearing completion," she stated. Therefore, the Medical Specialist Committee has been instructed to investigate and submit a report as soon as possible if these have been manufactured in accordance with international drug regulatory procedures anywhere in the world. "We look forward to hearing from this committee as soon as possible on matters such as a clinically manufactured inhaler in Canada, which is currently of clinical standard in Great Britain, as well as a drug developed in India to prevent the reproduction of the Covid virus, and a drug developed in Australia for this purpose” Wanniarachchi said.
