Explore possibility of conducting PCR tests at nearby hotels for foreign arrivals: State Minister to health officials

19 Dec 2020

State Minister Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle has instructed the health officials to explore the possibility of conducting PCR tests at nearby tourist hotels to avoid unnecessary delays in PCR tests at the airport. Primary Health Services, Pandemics and COVID Prevention State Minister Fernandopulle stated this at a discussion held at the Ministry of Health yesterday. She said PCR tests at hotels would not affect COVID-19 control apparatus currently in place at the airport and would not create unnecessary congestion. However, she said the mechanism should be implemented without making an impact on the current COVID-19 preventive measures in the country. She instructed the health authorities to formulate a systematic health mechanism required to revive the tourism industry in the country. The State Minister further stated that a tourism-friendly health mechanism should be implemented similar to in other countries.
