Extended honeymoon in Sri Lanka: San Francisco couple make the best of their situation

21 May 2020

It seems the coronavirus pandemic has caused most to be making the best out of a bad situation and joining the bandwagon are newlyweds Michelle and John Senyard from San Francisco, California.

The two tied the knot in San Francisco on 6 March and travelled to Thailand and Sri Lanka for a few weeks of vacationing. Days after arriving in Sri Lanka, however, the country started going into curfew.  As the pandemic grew worse, their flight home was cancelled, and the US issued the Global Travel Advisory Level 4 warning, urging Americans to return home. The couple tried to book a new flight home, but, as Michelle told BuzzFeed, their options were limited. A subsequent try to book another flight didn’t work out for them as well, when it got cancelled.   With their hotel shut down, and being forced to vacate, they luckily managed to find abode in a hostel that had closed down, The Spindrift Hostel, which offered them a room.  Stuck here ever since, the couple have been making the best out of the situation and documenting their experience via social media.  “I’ll be real, at the end of the day I was definitely in a fetal position crying because I was so overwhelmed at the thought of doing it all over again,” she wrote after one of her shopping trips during curfew, a month into their stay. “My husband reminded me that we’re a team now. Small, but mighty.”  Their travel videos and pics seem to have garnered quite the following, particularly their TikTok clip of John swinging from a tree that has surpassed over 4.7 million views.
