A family of 5 residing in the Ragala area in Nuwara Eliya was burnt to death last night during a housefire that engulfed the house while the family was asleep.
Amongst the deceased were two children aged 1 and 11.
The one year old child had celebrated his first birthday last evening, where thereafter the family had gone to sleep when the fire had started.
Police spokesperson SSP Nihal Thalduwa confirmed that an investigation would take place by the Ragala Police Station.
"The Ragala police will be attending to the investigation. We will be finding out why and how the fire started," said Thalduwa.
