Farmers claim no time or instructions to produce organic fertiliser

01 Oct 2021

Commenting on the current fertiliser crisis faced by farmers, the Organisation to Protect the Rights of Farmers in the Mahaweli B zone expressed their views on the matter at a media briefing yesterday (30). They claim that although the Government has requested them to manufacture their organic fertiliser, they do not have the time, nor have they received instructions on how to carry out the process. “Not even 50% of villages have started to use compost fertiliser,” they stated. Accordingly, the Organisation urged the Government to allow farmers to carry out cultivation using a combination of organic and chemical fertiliser.
