Fertiliser crisis: Vasudeva says Govt. must be humble enough to accept its mistakes

24 Nov 2021

While speaking about the ongoing fertiliser issue in the country, Minister of Water Supply Vasudeva Nanayakkara said that lessons are learnt from experience and that mistakes must be rectified. “We must be humble enough to accept our mistakes if it has happened. It is our responsibility to provide a solution as well. I feel this is how the Government should act,” the Minister said while speaking to the media yesterday (22). He also reassured that following the decision to import chemical fertilisers, the same will be provided to farmers through agrarian officers under certain regulations and not in a haphazard manner. “We will continue to support organic farming, we will release funds for organic fertiliser. If the nitrogen content is less, then we will issue funds to import nano nitrogen. We consider this as a step towards transitioning to organic farming,” the Minister said.
