O/L examination will not be held as scheduled: Minister

01 Dec 2020

The Minister of Education Prof. GL Peiris said today in Parliament that the O Level examination will not be taking place as scheduled earlier, owing to the current pandemic situation. He stated that students will be notified of the new dates with six weeks for the examination. The Minister pointed out that under the current situation, about 50 percent of the students studying in Grade 11 are currently unable to pursue their education. The GCE Ordinary Level Examination was earlier scheduled to be held from January 18 to 27. He stated, "621,000 students in our country are appearing for the GCE Ordinary Level Examination this year. The problem with that is that about 50 percent of schools in this country did not conduct Grade 11 classes in 2020. The new days will be fixed by giving those children 6 weeks to prepare for the examination. ”
