The manner in which the Ministry of Finance had carried out certain functions was last week exposed following a news report in the media.
During a meeting convened at the Ministry by Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa, it was revealed that a news release issued by the Ministry was only known by the Finance Minister through the media.
The meeting was held to discuss the statement issued by the rating agency Moody’s that Sri Lanka has been placed under review for downgrade.
Addressing the meeting attended by several ministers and state officials, Rajapaksa has said the Finance Ministry has issued a response to the rating agency’s observation without his knowledge.
“I got to know about the Finance Ministry response in the media,” he had said.
Finance Ministry Secretary S.R. Attygalle, who was also at the meeting, had apologised immediately for the miscommunication and said it would not happen in the future.
