The Public Health Inspectors (PHI) Union today stated that there is a possibility of new variants of Covid-19 entering into the country due to improper quarantining procedures and ineffective monitoring of fishermen.
Its Chairman Upul Rohana stated that more attention should be paid in this regard.
"People on multi-day fishing vessels and other fishing vessels do not have a systematic inspection or quarantine system. Therefore, it is imperative that the vulnerable groups involved in various maritime activities be subjected to regular inspections and quarantine procedures," he said.
