The Irrigation Department has stated that following significant rainfall exceeding 150mm this morning (10), the water levels of Kelani, Kalu, Gin and Nilwala Rivers have risen and therefore, the same could cause minor flood threats in areas around those river basins.
Minor flooding may be faced by low-lying areas of the Kelani River valley along Dehiovita, Ruwanwella, Seethawaka, Dompe, Kaduwela, Biyagama, Kolonnawa and Wattala Divisional Secretariat Divisions in the next 24 hours.
The low lying areas of the Kalu Ganga valley along Ratnapura, Kuruvita, Kiriella, Ayagama and Elapatha Divisional Secretariat Divisions may also face the same.
Disaster Management Authorities have urged people to take preventive measures to minimise dangers during this extreme weather situation.
