Following AG's decision, either "interim" or Competent Authority for SLC!

28 Mar 2021

Youth and Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa is likely to appoint either an interim committee or a Competent Authority (CA) to look into the affairs of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) soon, sources said. The Secretary of the Ministry of Sports Anuradha Wijekoon has reportedly told media that such an appointment would be made on the advice of the Attorney General (AG, Dappula de Livera). The AG has recommended such a measure to the Sports Ministry after considering a request made by the Sports Ministry itself. Therefore, the Ministry is unlikely do go against the AG's decision. "We also think so. There is going to be a CA most likely. But it could sometimes be an interim committee. At the end of the day, nobody can question the AG's decision. Most likely, the appointment in this regard is to be made pretty soon," a senior SLC official told the Morning Sports. The Sports Ministry sought legal advice from the AG when Colts Cricket Club challenged the legality of SLC's current term, which they argued was legally over on 21 February 2021.
