By Maheesha Mudugamuwa The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) yesterday (24) urged law enforcement authorities to monitor if the public is adhering to the Covid-19-related health and safety guidelines, as the coronavirus threat would be within the country for at least another year. Speaking to The Morning, GMOA Executive Committee Member Dr. Prasad Colambage said that since the virus is still spreading around the world, including in neighbouring India, the threat couldn’t be underestimated and therefore the necessary precautions should always be taken by the public to avoid any such threat. He, however, noted that there was no social transmission of the virus within the country at present and that steps have also been taken by the relevant authorities to avoid the spread of the virus to society from those who are arriving in Sri Lanka. “But it is the duty of all citizens to adhere to the guidelines because if by any chance the virus spreads to one person, that person can transmit it to 512 more people and therefore, to avoid any threat, all health guidelines should be followed,” he added.
