The Kelaniya Divisional Crime Investigation Unit has arrested four persons in connection with a number of robberies involving gold necklaces in recent days.
Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana stated that the arrested suspects are residents of Madapatha, Kirulapone and Peliyagoda.
A police spokesman said that the suspects were drug addicts and that more than 15 pounds of gold jewellery, two women's watches and nine bottles of foreign liquor were found in the suspects' possession.
The suspects had broken into houses as drug addicts and had snatched several gold necklaces which were worn around the necks of those in the house.
In the last 24 hours, four incidents of chain snatching have been reported from Vavuniya, Jaffna, Warakagoda and Arachchikattuwa police divisions, the police spokesman said.
