Foreign journalist granted bail
Bail has been granted to a foreign Reuters photojournalist who was arrested in Negombo on 2 May.
Sibdiqui Ahmad Danish, a Pulitzer prize winner, was arrested when he allegedly had tried to enter a school in Katana by force.
The Indian based photojournalist was produced before the Negombo Magistrate on 2 May and was remanded till 15 May.
He was later released while being granted surety bail after a special motion was filed by his lawyers yesterday (03), he has been asked to appear in court again on 9 May.
Reportedly, Danish had been in Sri Lanka to cover the incidents related to the Easter Sunday attacks, he had allegedly tried to enter the school in Katana to acquire more information regarding a student of the school who was killed in the suicide bombings at the St. Sebastian’s Church in Katuwapitiya.
