President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday awarded rank of Admiral of the Fleet to Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda former Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy (2005 –2009) and the honorary rank of Marshal of the Air Force to Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonetileke former Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force (2006 – 2011).
The President announced this issuing an extraordinary gazette notification yesterday (06).
The honorary ranks were awarded in appreciation of the outstanding gallantry, meritorious performance and distinguished service to the nation during the humanitarian operation and the defeat of terrorism in Sri Lanka.
