Former SLFP MPs refuse to sign nomination papers

Four Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) members have refused to sign nomination papers at the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Party (SLPP) office today.

Former MPs Duminda Dissanayake, Dayasiri Jayasekara, Lasantha Alagiyawanna and Weerakumara Dissanayake were to sign nomination papers to contest the forthcoming general elections today but have refused citing unfair treatment toward the SLFP when allocating the nominations quota.

Dissanayake had reportedly stormed out of the party office, when SLPP Secretary ‎Sagara Kariyawasam had not delivered a satisfactory answer to his question as to why the SLFP was not offered a fair share of nominations.

The SLFP earlier demanded a 30% quota of nominations for their members at the forthcoming General Election, which they are expected to contest as a coalition with the SLPP. However the SLPP had not agreed to the request.
