Forming a common plan

A group consisting of three former provincial governors and several senior lawyers last week visited the United National Party (UNP) headquarters, Sirikotha, to discuss the current crises faced by the country and formulate a set of proposals to address the issues. The group had visited Sirikotha last Monday (20) and engaged in a cordial discussion with senior members of the UNP. The group, including Maithri Gunaratne PC, Keerthi Tennekoon, Azath Salley, and lawyers Shiral Lakthilaka and Gunaratne Wanninayake had discussed with UNP Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene, Chairman Vajira Abyewardena, and General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara about formulating a set of common proposals to initiate a discussion with opposition political parties. The group is scheduled to meet with Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa on 3 January 2022 to discuss the proposed common programme for the Opposition. A similar discussion is to also be held with former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.
