Founder of the Bolling Swimming Academy passes away

David Bolling, a senior swimming coach and founder of the Bolling Swimming Academy passed away today(29). David Bolling is the brother of Olympian Julian Bolling and son of coach Tara Bolling. David Bolling represented Sri Lanka at Swimming, winning the Gold Medal in the 1500m Freestyle at the Indo – Bangladesh – Sri Lanka Triangular Aquatic Meet of that year. In addition, in the same year, he was placed First in the 1500m Freestyle event at the Sri Lanka National Championships, and in the following year, 1980, was placed First in the Six (6) Mile Sea Swim, while setting a new record for this event. A shoulder injury prematurely ended his competitive swimming career, but his love for swimming remained unchanged. In 1981, under the guidance of his former Coach, E. G. A. Wilson, he commenced a coaching career at his alma mater, Royal College. He continued coaching Royal until 1985. He then coached the Army Team and the Army Disabled Team. One of the swimmers of the former, Chaminda Priyadarshana, won three (3) Gold Medals and one (1) Bronze Medal at the FESPIC Games held in Bangkok in 1999. During this time, he also took on the Asian International School for a number of years during which time the school won the Inter-International School Swimming Meet on several occasions, with its swimmers establishing many new swimming records in that time.
