[social_warfare buttons=""Facebook,Twitter,Total""]Nine foreigners including three Nigerians, four Maldivians and two Indians were arrested for overstaying their visas, during a special operation conducted in Colombo and its suburbs yesterday, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.
He said the suspects were arrested in the Mt. Lavinia, Moratuwa, Dehiwala, Slave Island and Grandpass Police areas.
The DIG said that they have received information that mainly Nigerians who are staying in Sri Lanka are illegally engaged in cyber crimes and other fraudulent activities.
He said the police would continue to conduct special operations along with the help of officials from the Department of Immigration and Emigration to apprehend foreigners overstaying visas.
