FR case against IGP and Hemasiri postponed

The hearing of the Fundamental Rights petition case filed against former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara has been postponed to a later date. The hearing which commenced today (12) was postponed till July 25 by Supreme Court. The bench, headed by Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya also comprises of Justices Sisira de Abrew, Buwaneka Aluvihare, Priyantha Jayawardena, Prasanna Jayawardena, L.T.B. Dehideniya and Murdu Fernando. The seven-judge bench will hear the petitions filed against the IGP and the former defence secretary with regards to claims that the two officials had violated fundamental human rights by failing to prevent the Easter Sunday attacks. The petitions were filed by 11 parties including the Sri Lanka Bar Association (BASL), a businessman engaged in the tourism sector named Janak Sri Vidanage and Saman Nandana Sirimanne, a father who had lost his son and daughter during the attacks on Easter Sunday morning.
