The freedom of assembly is fundamental to democracy, says United States of America Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung, who also urged that the Sri Lanka Government to give space to support the rights of citizens.
She made this statement via a tweet today (02).
"We urge the SL Government to ensure space to support the rights of citizens and for protesters to exercise their rights peacefully," her tweet mentioned.
A multi-party and trade union protest is currently underway from Maradana to Fort, with protesters demanding taxes be reduced.
