Further consideration of FR petitions against polls date postponed

The Supreme Court (SC) has postponed further consideration of the fundamental rights (FR) petitions challenging elections date until 10 am tomorrow (20). The court took up the seven FR petitions calling for the nullification of the Gazette Notification announcing general elections and the dissolution of Parliament for the second day today (19). The petitions were taken up for hearing before a five-judge bench of the SC. The five-member judge bench at the SC comprised Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, Justice Buwaneka Aluwihare PC, Justice Sisira de Abrew, Justice Priyantha Jayawardena PC, and Justice Vijith Malalgoda PC.
