Further consideration of Ravi's writ application postponed to tomorrow

Further consideration of writ applications filed by former Minister Ravi Karunanayake and 3 others has been postponed to tomorrow (13). The decision was made when the application was taken up today before the Court of Appeal Trial-at-Bar today (12). The Attorney General (AG) yesterday (11)  submitted preliminary objections against writ applications filed by former Minister Ravi Karunanayake and 3 others. The writ applications seek for the cancellation of arrest warrants issued by Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake. The AG, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) and several others have been named as the respondents. Last Friday (6), Dissanayake issued arrest warrants on Karunanayake and 9 others over the Central Bank bond auctions of March 2016. The AG last Tuesday (3) directed the Acting IGP Senior DIG C.D. Wickramaratne to obtain warrants from court and arrest Karunanayake, former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran,  Aloysius, Chief Executive Officer of PTL Kasun Palisena & six other suspects over charges of conspiracy, criminal misappropriation, cheating and market manipulation in regard to the bond auctions of March 2016. Last Wednesday (5) the Colombo Fort Magistrate had imposed a travel ban on Karunanayake and 10 other suspects in the case. CID has not been able to arrest Karunanayake up until now.
