The Office for Reparations is rendering a “magnificent” service throughout the country, according to Foreign Minister G.L Peiris.
“Today there were 20 reparation certificates that were distributed but the actual number is not 20, it is 1000. Additionally, Rs. 100 Mn has been distributed as reparation payments during the last four and a half days,” Peiris remarked while speaking at the launch of the country’s awareness programme on the legal system in Jaffna on Saturday (29).
He also noted that appointments were made for inquiries into sudden deaths.
“These are all matters that need to be resolved close to the people. We are determined to ensure that the Sustainable Development Goal (SGD) programme is met,” he said.
Further, he explained that the Government is eager to go to all parts of the country and find out what the priorities of the people are.
“We must respond to those actual requirements without making decisions from Colombo,” Peiris added.
