The Galle Port will be developed under the theme of “Tourist Destination and Secured Port” which will enable it to maintain a presence as a regional commercial port, according to the Department of Government Information.
Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal tabled by the Minister of Ports and Shipping to take necessary steps to implement the aforesaid project as proposed.
As per the Ministry of Ports and Shipping, the project will be launched as a public-private joint partnership project. It is also noted that this development will not impose limitations to the traditional services of the port and investments from the private sector.
