Minister of Energy Udaya Gammanpila today (17) admitted to the ongoing foreign currency crisis that the country is facing.
“The reality is that we are in a foreign currency crisis,” he stated through a tweet via his official twitter handle.
Explaining further, Gammanpila noted that fuel accounted for 18% of the nation’s import bill in the first half of 2021. However, he stated that in the second half, it may be around 25%.
The Minister urged the public to use fuel economically so that foreign currency can be saved for much needed medicine and vaccines.
