A "gas mafia" blackmailed and pinned Litro Gas to the wall and demanded for contracts to be extended for two more years when consignments of LP gas arrived to the country, according to Chairman of Litro Gas Sri Lanka Theshara Jayasinghe.
He made this statement during a media brief held yesterday (05).
"There is a gas mafia in the country and this mafia makes deals with the Government. Whatever Government comes, these mafias work out a deal with them. The mafia controls the entire market and if someone tries to disrupt their monopoly, then they act against the perpetrator. When our consignment of gas arrives, the mafia tried to blackmail us and they pinned us to the wall. I had to speak to the President and upon his orders along with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, we managed to release the consignment," said Jayasinghe.
He further added that a shortage will not be faced, and very soon the stocks will be distributed to the people.
