EC to decide: Health Ministry The Election Commission (EC) had reached out to the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services to share health guidelines and their expert advice that should be followed if the election is to be held. Speaking to The Morning, Secretary to the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services Bhadrani Jayawardena said: “During the meeting, we pointed out that social distancing needs to be maintained until the spread of Covid-19 is in a contained state. The Election Commission has requested for us to come up with a health guideline that should be followed for the elections amidst the Covid-19 threat.” According to Jayawardena, a team has already started working on a strategic plan and are drafting health guidelines should the EC decide to call for elections in the next few weeks. She also noted that conducting election campaigns will be decided by the EC after taking the plan and guidelines into account. By Sarah Hannan
