The Election Commission (EC) today declared that the General Election will be held on 5th August.
The members of the EC had unanimously agreed on the date during a meeting today.
The polls were set to be held on the 25 April, but it was later postponed to 20 June in light of the COVID-19 outbreak in Sri Lanka.
Several petitions were filed against the date set by the EC, however all petitions were dismissed by the Supreme Court on the 3rd of June.
