The Highways Ministry will take measures to expedite the construction of the Getambe flyover, which was started to ease the traffic congestion on the Peradeniya-Kandy road.
Minister of Highways Johnston Fernando recently instructed the relevant officials to accelerate construction work on this project, which is funded by the Republic of Hungary.
It was further stated that the construction of the Getambe flyover will reduce traffic congestion on the Peradeniya-Kandy road, while at the same time, 18 roads have been identified and widened, and plans are being drawn up to alleviate traffic congestion in Kandy.
Minister Fernando also noted that it has been decided to construct flyovers in congested areas as a step to alleviate the existing traffic congestion on the main roads in Colombo and its suburbs.
