GMOA rejects Dr. Jayaruwan’s presidency nomination

01 Jun 2021

By Dinitha Rathnayake   Former Health Ministry Spokesman Dr. Jayaruwan Bandara’s nomination for presidency of the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) was rejected by its Election Committee. Speaking to The Morning, Dr. Bandara said that the rejection took place due to a few errors in the nomination form. “According to the Election Committee, the GMOA registration number I mentioned was wrong and the nominee’s name and the registration number were also wrong. However, I made an appeal against it and the Election Committee accepted my appeal,” he added. According to sources, the Election Committee would soon declare the names of those who handed over their nominations for presidency. Specialist Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya was re-elected as the President of the GMOA at its annual general meeting (AGM) held last year. It was the 10th time Dr. Padeniya had been appointed to the post. Meanwhile, Dr. Shenal Fernando was appointed as the Secretary of the GMOA last year. Nine new executive officers were also selected for the year.
