GMP certificate compulsory for all food vendors

Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Certificate compulsory for food suppliers including small scale restaurants to major hotels across the island. The Consumer Affairs Authority of Sri Lanka has made this certificate mandatory and will come to full effect by 01 March 2019. The procurement of a Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certification based on the Sri Lanka Standard Code of Hygienic Practice for Catering Establishments has been made mandatory through the Gazette Notification No 2087/19 issued by the Sri Lanka Consumer Affairs Authority on 04 September 2018. The certificate can be obtained by traders, caterers, suppliers of processed food and any other persons engage in the business of catering or other similar or connected activity from the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI). Traders, caterers, suppliers of processed food and/or other persons engaged in the business of catering who possess a HACCP, FSSC 22000 or ISO 22000 certificate from an accredited certification body will be exempted from obtaining the GMP certification from the SLSI, the Consumer Affairs Authority also noted.
