Gotabaya’s face removed from SLPP media briefing backdrop

17 Aug 2022

  • Party Gen. Secy Sagara Kariyawasam claims he’s unaware
BY Buwanajee Coralage   Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's image was revealed to have been removed from the famous official digital backdrop used at media conferences of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), and has not been used at the SLPP media briefings since at least Monday (15). Previously, the digital backdrop showed the faces of former President and Prime Minister and incumbent Government MP Mahinda Rajapaksa, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, and former Minister of Finance and one of the founders of SLPP Basil Rajapaksa, in rotation. When contacted yesterday (16) by The Morning, SLPP General Secretary, Attorney and MP Sagara Kariyawasam appeared to have no knowledge on the matter, and requested us to contact him later in the day. However, he was unreachable afterwards for further clarification. Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled the country following massive public protests in July and subsequently resigned from office. He is presently in Thailand.
