  • Minister Prasanna Ranatunga asks public service not to refrain from work citing circulars
Minister of Urban Development and Housing Prasanna Ranatunga stated that the Government is working to present a welfare Budget to the country soon. Speaking at a discussion with officials of the Urban Development and Housing Ministry yesterday (23), he pointed out that this includes short-, medium-, and long-term programmes that can help the country recover from the current economic crisis. Ranatunga further stated that the Ministry is expected to review the ongoing projects and that special attention would be paid to reviewing the progress of the projects and the steps to be taken to complete them expeditiously. Due to the economic crisis in the country, various problems have arisen with the development projects implemented by the institutions under this Ministry. It is hoped to identify these problems and provide solutions to them soon. “No matter what Government initiates these projects, if the people want them, it is the responsibility of the next Government to maintain them. If the projects change in line with the change of the Government, the country cannot develop. At the time of concluding a project agreement, action should be taken to complete it within a specified timeframe.  “Government circulars are made to work as they are made by the officials themselves, but some are putting forward circulars as an excuse to avoid work. Do not delay the public service under the guise of circulars. We all get a salary and allowances from the people’s money. Therefore, it is our responsibility to do this justice,” he further added.
