Govt. allowed COVID burials to get votes at UNHRC: Manusha

22 Mar 2021

Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Manusha Nanayakkara today said the government has allowed COVID burials simply to get the votes against the UN Resolution at the UNHRC session in Geneva. “There were several media reports citing that the government has requested Muslim countries to vote against the resolution presented at the Geneva Council. This move is clearly an indication of a racist government,” he stated. He also said that the proposed burqa ban was an unscrupulous move by the government to get the votes at local elections. "However, it was also rejected by the Cabinet because they remembered that the UNHRC session is still ongoing," he said. “We are ashamed of this government. They ignite racism and then hide it in fear of higher authorities. They use racist moves to get the votes of our people. At the same time, they hide these moves to get the votes of Muslim countries at the UNHRC,” he said.
