Govt. Analysts’ Dept. showed performance growth of 104% in Jan 2021: Justice Minister

Justice Minister Ali Sabry stated that the Government Analyst's Department has been able to increase the capacity and number of employees and then show a performance growth of 104% in January 2021. “In January this year alone, 4,828 tests were conducted and 5,060 tests were completed, bringing the Department of Analysts to the level where reports can be issued in at least a month,” the Minister said. Under the special arrangements prepared by the Analyst's Department on the instructions of the Minister of Justice, the officers were required to work free of charge after their working hours until 7.00 pm and on certain days until 10.00 pm on an additional shift duty, as a result of which these targets were achieved. Meanwhile, the minister said there are a large number of cases pending in the Hambantota and Tissamaharama courts. "Therefore, new courtrooms with more space will be established to expedite hearing of cases. It was also proposed to select a suitable site due to insufficiency and to look into the construction of a new court complex,” the Minister stated. He said the plans to improve infrastructure of the judiciary should be made focusing 30 to 35 years ahead of time. He said the existing number of courts should be doubled to minimize the number of cases and a programme has already been launched to move forward in this regard under a new system.
