Govt. decides to close liquor stores until further notice

The government has decided to close down all the  liquor stores across the island until further notice. The Excise Department last Sunday (19) announced that liquor stores and retailers with a valid excise license will be permitted to operate in their respective areas where curfew is lifted during the hours stipulated in the liquor permit. The announcement was made by Deputy Excise Commissioner Kapila Kumarasinghe in a statement issued to the media. The statement noted that the directive was issued by the Commissioner General of the Excise Department, following the instructions of the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Economic, and Policy Development. It further stated that the directive is to be carried out in line with curfew regulations, physical distancing practices, and the general Covid-19 prevention and safety guidelines.
