Govt. explores possibilities of digitizing agriculture trading

30 Apr 2020

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has advised relevant officials to look into possibilities of digitizing agriculture trading, the Presidents Media Division said. Discussions were held on this regard at the Presidential Secretariat today (30).
The meeting was attended by officials of the Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Institute and Secretaries of Ministries pertaining to Agriculture, Internal trade, customer welfare, export and plantation industries.
Rajapaksa noted that such a platform will give the opportunity to farmers to gain a better price for their paddy stock.
"The platform should also be simple and easily accessible to farmers and those engaged in the agriculture sector."
He pointed out that the platform should one day help Sri Lanka reach self sufficiency in food production.
