Govt. looking at possibilities to reopen tourism before August

The Government is currently looking at possibilities of opening Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) for tourists before August,  Industrial Exports, Tourism and Aviation Minister Prasanna Ranatunga told reporters following a political meeting in Wattala yesterday (13). Ranatunga, however, emphasized that before the Island is reopen for tourism, the government hopes to complete the repatriation of Sri Lankans stranded in other countries. "The Government hopes to speed up the process of repatriation.  Around 20,000 Sri Lankans are to be repatriated.  10,000 are currently undergoing quarantine," Ranatunga added. It was announced earlier that the government was planning to reopen the tourism sector on 1st August by allowing only small groups of visitors to begin with.
