Govt. makes emergency gas purchase

The Government has made an emergency purchase of 12000 MT of Liquid Petroleum Gas(LPG) to address the prevailing shortage in the country, a Finance Ministry statement said. Yesterday, a ship carrying 3600 MT of LPG landed at the port. Another ship carrying 3600 MT of LPG will land tomorrow, whilst another carrying the same quantity will land next Saturday. Finance Ministry said in addition to the above, a shipment carrying 6000 MT of LPG will land in the country next week. The purchase would be made by Litro Gas Lanka Ltd. which operates under the Finance Ministry. A shortage of LPG was reported across the country for the past few days.
