Govt. to amend Press Council Act

There is an urgent need to amend the Press Council Act taking into consideration the complaints received regarding media prejudice, stated Basil Rajapaksa, Chief of the Presidential Task Force yesterday (29) at a discussion held at the Presidential Secretariat on the future plans of the State Ministry of Postal Services and Professional Development of Media.

It was revealed that the number of complaints received from electronic, print and social media about the negative impact and prejudice on individuals, institutions and businesses is very high. In order to mitigate that, there are also plans to implement a training institute to develop the professional skills of journalists.

Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, Minister of State S. Vilayendiran, Secretary to the President PB Jayasundera, Cabinet and Secretaries to State Ministries and heads of line agencies were also present at the discussion.
