Govt. to probe tyre shortage allegations: Bandula

Minister of Trade Bandula Gunawardana today said that the allegations that there is a shortage of tires for vehicles such as tractors used in the agricultural sector will be investigated and necessary action will be taken against those responsible. He also stated that safe stocks of rice will be imported if there is a rice shortage caused due to traders hoarding rice stocks. Speaking further in Parliament, he said, “Necessary steps are being taken to export pepper without export charges and give more money to the local farmers. The Sri Lanka Board of Exports is taking special measures to export pepper, and for the first time in the history of Sri Lanka, the government had sided with farmers by charging between 600 and 700 rupees per kilo of pepper.”
