Govt. to review concessionary loan facilities

26 Nov 2019

The Ministry of Finance has planned to review concessionary loan facilities introduced by the previous government. MOF expressed these views in response to news reports claiming that the new government had suspended the ‘Enterprise Sri Lanka’ concessionary loan programme and other schemes initiated by the Yahapalana regime. The Ministry said it will re-organize the loan facilities in line with the Government’s policies. "We understands the importance of granting concessionary loan facilities to small and medium enterprises and their contribution to economic growth." The Finance Ministry says that loan facilities should target sectors that contribute most to the economy. The Ministry said after a systematic study, the state will take measures to strengthen these credit schemes. Under the Enterprise Sri Lanka programme Rs. 70 billion was disbursed among 40,240 beneficiaries as of August 2019.
