Govt. to revoke fuel price formula

26 Nov 2019

The new Government is hoping to revoke the fuel price formula introduced by the 'Yahapana government'. Minister of Passenger Transport, Power & Energy expressed these views to the media today. He said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had also expressed concerns over the price formula. The International Monetary Fund(IMF) had called for an automatic pricing mechanism to be formulated under its Extended Fund Facility programme. The Yahapalana government approved the implementation of a cost reflective formula based pricing system for auto fuels from 11 May 2018. Following the Government's initiative, the IMF said the price formula marked a major step toward completing the energy pricing reforms and minimizing the fiscal risks. The price formula was revealed to the public in October last year. The fuel prices are changed 10th of every month based on the fuel formula.
