Govt. to stabilise Cost of Living

By Maheesha Mudugamuwa A cabinet subcommittee on the cost of living (CoL) would be appointed by the Government to stabilise the CoL, Co-Cabinet Spokesman Udaya Gammanpila said. Addressing the media last week, Gammanpila said the proposal was made by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Cabinet approval was granted last week. The proposed cabinet subcommittee will work to keep the cost of living stable by providing policies and practical solutions focusing on the market demand and supply fluctuations, weather effects, seasonal product changes, and international market prices, he said. The subcommittee, chaired by President Rajapaksa, will consist of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Ministers of Trade, Agriculture, Fisheries, and Plantation. In addition, the State Minister of Paddy and Grains, Organic Food, Vegetables, Fruits, Chillies, Onion and Potato Cultivation Promotion, Seed Production, and Advanced Technology Agriculture, as well as the State Minister of Coconut, Kithul, Palmyrah and Rubber Cultivation Promotion, and Related Industrial Product Manufacturing and Export Diversification will also participate for the functions of the subcommittee.
