13 Mar 2020

Former Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa today called on the government to immediately convene Parliament to address the current state of emergency.

Premadasa speaking to reporters today (13) said the country was faced with a possible outbreak of the coronavirus and that it is the government's responsibility to convene parliament in order to take relevant measures to protect the people. "The government's main focus is getting a 2/3rd majority and it has forgotten the crisis at hand." He added that the opposition was willing to submit proposals to combat the current situation and work with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to overcome the crisis. Premadasa said that several shortcomings including the prevailing drug shortage needed to be addressed immediately by the government. "Our request comes with genuine concern toward the country and it is not politically motivated,"Premadasa pointed out.
