Minister of Education Prof. G. L. Peiris said today that the schools in the Western Province will commence on Monday, March 15 only for Grade 5, Grade 11 and Grade 13.
He stated that the other grades would be reopened on April 19 after the New Year holidays.
The Minister said this while participating in a press conference held at the Ministry of Education today.
The Minister further said, “Today we have received the written recommendation of the Director General of Health Services. Accordingly, instructions have been received that schools in the Western Province should be reopened only for grades 5, 11 and 13 next Monday, March 15. Classes in the other grades will begin after the April holidays. Therefore, schools for other grades will commence on April 19.”
He further said that students have already been admitted to schools for grade 1 classes, although the classes have not started yet.
Accordingly, all other classes, including Grade 1, will recommence on April 19 in the Colombo, Kalutara and Gampaha Districts.
