Hand sanitizers not registered at NMRA to be banned from February

01 Jan 2021

An extraordinary gazette was issued by the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) banning hand sanitizer products that are not registered at the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA). The gazette by CAA Chairman Major General (retd.) Shantha Dissanayake said, “No importer, manufacturer, distributor or trader of hand sanitizers shall import, manufacture, store, distribute or display for sale, expose or offer for sale, wholesale or retail any hand sanitizers unless such hand sanitizer is registered with the NMRA.” It said the registration number should also be displayed in a visible place of the pack or container of hand sanitizer. “This direction will come into effect from February 01, 2021,” it said.
