Has the number of Covid-19 patients actually reduced?

14 Sep 2021

Despite the declining number of Covid-19 daily cases due to the imposition of a lockdown, Co-Convener of the Health Trade Unions Collective Saman Rathnapriya questions if these numbers have actually been reducing or if there has been a reduction in tests conducted. These sentiments were expressed at a press conference held yesterday (13). He further went on to clarify his questioning, stating that because the number of tested patients have reduced considerably, a drop in Covid-19 positive patients is seen. “12,285 PCR tests and 3,218 Rapid Antigen Tests were done yesterday (12). Whereas, if you look back to the 22nd of August, 28,000 PCR and Rapid Antigen Tests were done in total. By reducing the number of tests conducted, who is the Government trying to fool?” asked Rathnapriya. Accordingly, Rathnapriya requested the Government to increase the number of PCR tests done and arrange for patients to receive medical intervention or be quarantined.
