Health authorities alone cannot control the pandemic: DDGHS

02 Nov 2021

The pandemic cannot be controlled by the health authorities alone, as the general public, transportation services and passengers need to support the cause, said Deputy Director General of Health Dr Hemantha Herath. He made this statement during a media brief today (02). "If people think that it is the responsibility of health authorities to control the pandemic alone, they are wrong. It is a collective effort by the transportation authorities and passengers who should pay attention and prevent the spread of the virus. The people who contribute to the socio-economic activities of the country are provided with the needed facilities in order to run the industries without disruptions," said Dr Herath. When inquired about the upcoming Deepavali celebrations, Dr Herath responded saying that there is a high chance that interprovincial travel will increase during the season, whereas people should also understand that the only way to reduce the spread is to minimize travel and follow health regulations to curb the spread of the covid-19 virus during the festivities.
